September 2019 – The Adventure Continues

After our long day of hiking The Path of the Gods, we decided to enjoy a day on the water with our friend Big G. I initially thought I would just hire a boat in Positano for the day but they wanted 1,000 euro or more. I had reached out to Gugliemo to see if he had someone he would recommend and he insisted it be him. I thought that was crazy because he would have to come all the way around from Massa Lubrense but he said No Problem and only charged us 650 euro for the entire day!
It turned out the G had never been south of Amalfi so he was excited to explore the coastline as well. We explored around a private island, made a stop in Amalfi, then headed down the coast to Cetara for lunch. It was funny because as we started to approach the harbor, Big G whipped out his phone and was taking a bunch of pictures of the big boats. He was excited to see them, especially for his dad who owns his own fleet of fishing boats. This village is the largest ‘producer’ of anchovies and bluefin tuna.
Cetara is a small seaside fishing village that is famous for the production colatura di alici – Slow-Food Presidium anchovy-flavored sauce. Here are some pictures from the village and our day on the water.

It was Jess & Andrew’s last night so we decided to go down to the restaurant we pass on our way to the beach. It was a beautiful place to watch the sunset and enjoy a fabulous meal.

We enjoyed a leasurly morning on the terrace, then Jess & Andrew went exploring before the car was set to pick them up. Time to say goodbye.

Meanwhile…our last wine delivery with this cutie, as he was headed back home for another school year.

Next up, Gil and I hiked the Valle delle Ferriere (The Old Mill) hike in Amalfi. We took the ferry over to Amalfi and headed straight into town. I like Amalfi, as it’s flatter and has less tourists than Positano. You continue all the way through town where you will see the beginning of the path up the hill.

Time to start heading back down…we are hot and sweaty! Being in the thick of the forest, it was super humid but absolutely beautiful!

What a beautiful hike! Time to reward ourselves with a refreshing beverage and some food. Our stats… 4.5 miles, 2:42:05 moving time and 1,406 calories burned!

One last relaxing day at the beach followed by dinner back at the restaurant at the top of the hill where we had lunch after hiking the Path of the Gods. It was SO delicious. Tomorrow we head back to Rome before flying home.

Our driver picked us up right on time, drove us to Naples where we caught the train back to Rome. Settled into our hotel in Trastevere then wandered around a bit before cleaning up for dinner. We love Trastevere, it is so lively and fun and there are so many fun things to see.

They say that if you toss a coin over your shoulder into the Trevi fountain, you will always come back.

Time to enjoy a cocktail on the rooftop bar before dinner. Why not finish the way we started this trip!

What an amazing trip…time to fly home.
