April 2022

While the bones of the house are great, the rooms need some updating. The structure of the house is a giant square and on the 2nd floor there are 4 bedrooms with a sitting area between them and french doors leading out onto the balcony.
The photo above is what is now my bedroom in the northwest corner of the house. The wallpaper was peeling and musty so needed to go. As I began to peel the paper off, much of the wall came with it, crumblimg down to the ground. The walls are about 18 inches thick, made of stone and brick, covered with some type of plaster. Needless to say, my two walls are going to need some resurfacing.

Once the surface was cleaned and smoothed, I wanted to add a little color with an accent wall. I love the effect of limewash so I ordered several different colors from Bauwerk for the various spaces throughout the house. I love their website because they have instructional videos so you know how to create each of the possible looks. It’s a lot of work but totally worth it. My paint color is Marikesh.
Every room gets a beautiful antique armoir and blanket box. I will write about all of the antiques in a separate post.

Notice the hideous light fixture straight out of 1970 in the picture above? You will see that it was replaced with a beautiful glass chandelier in the pictures with the painted wall. Next up…creating a space for mom.

The room I earmarked for my mom is in the northeast corner of the house. She Loves the color yellow so the paint color I selected for an accent wall is called Mimosa. This bedroom’s walls were in great shape, they just needed to be washed and a fresh coat of paint.
To set it up perfectly for mom, I found an antique dressing table and mirror and had the ceiling light replaced with a beautiful chandelier with golden tones.

The southeast corner room is what I affectionately call the Twin room, because it has 2 twin beds that can be made together into a larger single bed for a couple.

Similar to the yellow room, this one doesn’t really need any work. I elected not to paint in here and focus my energy in other areas of the house. With new furniture and a fresh washing of the walls, this room is ready for use.

The last bedroom is Jessica & Andrew’s room in the southwest corner of the house. Andrew agreed to paint and they selected a chalky grey for the accent wall. Jessica likes the antique light fixture so it remains in place today.

Last, but not least, updating the sitting area between the rooms.

What is really great is that the floors throughout this floor are fantastic. They look nice, have a nice color and shine, and are easy to clean.

Now…time to enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony.
