Ferragosto 2021

Ferragosto in Italy begins August 15th and all of Italy shuts down until the 2nd week in September. D&G connected us with their law firm who conducted a legal search to ensure there were not property encumbrances and that there were no ‘hidden’ family members with rights to the property. Fortunately, everything came back clear…WooHoo!

Note: If you don’t conduct a proper legal search, there maybe ‘hidden’ familyh members who can claim rights to the property. This means that even ifyou properly purchase the home, someone could show up a year later and claim ownership. No Thank You!!!

Given Ferragosto, we formally submitted our offer to the seller in mid-September. The asking price was 250k Euros, we offered 220K and we settled on 225k…we felt really good about it given the Geometra report. We were initially looking to close on or before Dec. 15th, 2021 but the seller was nervous that he couldn’t get everything completed in time, given the holidays, so we settled on a January 2022 date. This actually made travel planning easier for us.

What’s funny is that Ferragosto will become an issue for years to come. Planning a project of renovations is one thing, holding people to a timeline is something totally different. And you will see in future posts that when the project manager says ‘they will be at the house on Wednesday…’. you learn to ask WHICH Wednesday?!

Next up…the Rogito!
